Prior to operating an aircraft solo under your student pilot permit or as a licensed pilot in command, you must hold a current medical appropriate to the privileges of your license. As a student pilot or private pilot, you must hold a Category 3 medical, and as a Commercial Pilot you must hold a Category 1 medical.
